The Founder
How We Started
KCOOP Organization was founded by Erick Okoth, a social impact entrepreneur and community organizer with deep roots in Kibera slums, Nairobi-Kenya. Orphaned at the age of 9, Erick’s early experiences in Kibera profoundly shaped his passion for supporting orphans and vulnerable children facing similar challenges.
Driven by his dream to become a social worker, Erick immersed himself in learning through workshops, seminars, and informal training in social work and entrepreneurship. His first venture was OAC Kenya Crafts, established in 2018. This social enterprise, aimed at creating job opportunities for Kibera’s youth, also contributed to the community, with 10% of its profits supporting needy children.
In 2020, Erick expanded his efforts with OAC Kenya Tours, focusing on cultural tours and volunteer initiatives within the Kibera Slums. These tours not only raised awareness about the community’s challenges but also generated revenue, with 50% of the booking fees aiding local children. The success of these enterprises and their positive impact on the community fueled Erick’s ambition. Inspired to broaden his reach, he envisioned a more extensive support network for the orphans and vulnerable children of Kibera and beyond. This vision led to the formation of KCOOP Organization in 2022, a non-profit entity dedicated to making a significant difference in the lives of these children.

George is driven by purpose and deeply passionate about giving back to society. Born and raised in the Kibera slums, his experiences there profoundly shaped his life perspective and ignited a deep-seated passion for helping others. As a part-time volunteer, he works tirelessly, contributing his expertise in financial management to assist our organization.
Benta Akinyi
Childcare Program Lead
Benta, a resident of the Kibera slums, has been a dedicated volunteer with us since our inception. She is poised to take on a new role as a child caregiver at our upcoming second children’s center in Kibera. Committed to making a difference, Benta strives tirelessly to address the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in her community.
