Experience Kibera Beyond the Headlines

Discover Kibera through the people who know it best. Our community-led tours introduce visitors to local history, culture, entrepreneurship, and everyday life while sharing the work KCOOP is doing alongside children and families.

Your visit doesn't have to end with the tour. Guests are invited to spend time at KCOOP's children's center, where you can play games, read books, create art, share a meal, or simply get to know the incredible young people who call Kibera home.

Every visit creates meaningful connections while directly supporting local initiatives and the children we serve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? We'd love to hear from you. Feel free to contact us. We're happy to help plan your visit.

How long is the tour?

Tours typically last between 2-3 hours, though we're happy to customize the experience based on your schedule.

How safe is it to visit?

Very! You'll be accompanied throughout your visit by trusted local community leaders who know Kibera intimately. Visitors are warmly welcomed, and because our guides have deep relationships throughout the community, guests consistently describe the experience as comfortable, safe, and unforgettable.

What should I wear?

We recommend comfortable walking shoes and modest clothing suitable for the weather. We also recommend bringing a full water bottle, a hat, and sunscreen, especially on warmer days.

Can I spend time with the children?

Absolutely! One of the most meaningful parts of the experience is spending time at KCOOP's children's center. The kids love meeting visitors from around the world, asking questions, playing games, sharing laughs, and learning about different cultures. We encourage guests to take the time to connect. These moments are often the highlight of the day for both visitors and the children.

Should I bring anything for the kids?

While never expected, the children always appreciate small donations such as pencils, pens, crayons, juice concentrate (a favorite!), school supplies, or individually wrapped snacks. Many visitors choose to bring a backpack of supplies to donate during their visit. With up to 50 children at the center each day, even small contributions can have a meaningful impact.

How much does a visit cost?

KCOOP does not charge a fixed fee for tours. Instead, we invite visitors to make a donation that supports our programs for children and families. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps create opportunities within the community and ensures our work can continue long after your visit.
